Free Zombie Games Online

Here’s a nice treat for all you zombie lovers out there – I have found a very cool online game that’s free to play and awesome!

The World’s #1 Zombie MMORPG

free zombie games

In this multiplayer zombie apocalypse game, players will need to have their wits about them as they struggle for survival in the decaying, zombie infested city of Fairview. Will you stay in the relative safety of the last remaining human outpost, or attempt to create your own hideout in the depths of the city? The choice is yours in this 3rd person survival horror action game.

Dead Frontier was first released back in 2008, and has since undergone regular updates and improvements. Having gone from strength to strength, the game currently sees up to 100,000 players per day battling the undead horde. In fact, just a few days ago the game developers announced their ten millionth registered player. The game is browser-based so there is no downloaded or client install needed. One of the things that makes this game a cut above the rest is the 3D graphics. Most other online zombie games are only text-based.

Dead Frontier takes place in a dangerous world in which the few remaining humans must scrabble to survive after a zombie pandemic. Going it solo is possible but not recommended since it is largely a co-op game in which survivors are much better off fighting together. Outposts, which serve as a safe haven for the living, are spread throughout the city and players can also barricade buildings to create personal outposts.

Begin your survival horror experience now by visiting the Dead Frontier official website.

Other Free Zombie Games Online

Dead Frontier is our top pick for the best free zombie game online. If you haven’t played it yet we suggest you give it a go. Are there other free zombie apocalypse games? Yes, though we do not recommend them as highly. Here is a list of some other games you can try out.

Zombie Pandemic – this one is text-based

Day Z – this is a free mod for the game ArA2: Combined Operations which is cool if you already own that game. Otherwise you can buy the game at Amazon. Link: ArmA2: Combined Operations [Download] and then visit the Day Z website to get the mod.

Die2Nite – another good game but you will have to use your imagination here since it’s text-based

Upcoming Zombie Games

There are also a few zombie apocalypse games that are currently under development. These are due to be released some time in the future so please do note that they are not currently playable.

7 Days to Die (http://7daystodie.com) – a survival crafting zombie game

Proyect Z (http://proyectz.kiio.es) – a MORPG (Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) set in a post-apocalyptic world where players will have to fight off “dead-soldiers”

Sorry that there aren’t a lot. This is limited to only free to play online games so those that you have to buy or can play solo (offline mode) are not included. If you want another type of list for zombie games you can buy then leave a comment below. Thanks!

Best MMORPG 2014

2014 is here so it’s just about time to talk about current, new and upcoming MMO games. What will be the best MMORPG games of 2014? First up are the games that are currently fully released and playable.

Best MMORPG 2014

Free to Play

neverwinter

In my opinion, the best MMORPG of 2014 is Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter. I’m only talking about MMOs that are playable right now in English. So stuff that has been launched in Japan or Korea but not in the US are not in the running for this category.

Link: Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter website

Why Neverwinter?

  • good classic RPG gaming
  • easy enough to start playing but hard to master
  • decent amount of players
  • lots of things to do
  • fun!

I also particularly like the Foundry that lets players design their own dungeon which they can then share with other players. Genius!

Browser MMORPG

free mmorpg like runescape

Drakensang Online – a very popular browser-based 3D MMORPG that has more than 5 million registered players worldwide. Drakensang Online combines the best game elements of an action RPG with an MMORPG. The flexible skill system offers players the chance to define their own personal style of play. Players can modify their character’s basic skills through the use of different elements – turning a simple energy ball into a frostball or turn a normal explosive attack into a meteor. A vast sum of quests to complete, items to be found, battles to win, and distant lands to explore are all part of the player’s experience in the kingdom of Duria.

New MMORPG 2014 List

Now let’s take a look at newly launched or open beta MMORPGs.

new mmo 2014

League of Angels – one of the most anticipated MMORPGs of 2014, League of Angels was officially launched this January 10. LoA is a hybrid turn-based fantasy MMORPG/strategy game. Combining aspects of multiplayer games with a few new twists, League of Angels brings a unique flair to browser gaming – in addition to embarking on engaging quests, dominating in massive PvP and outwitting fierce events, players can also seek out and train angels. Recruit and train allies, craft powerful equipment, and seek out Angels to fight side by side to save the world. This is a good game for those who enjoy strategy MMOs.

aura kingdom

Aura Kingdom – a brand new anime-themed action MMORPG. The open beta started on Jan. 7, 2014 and is still ongoing. Aura Kingdom empowers players as Envoys of Gaia, gifted individuals that take the role of one of eight classes. High-level players can also choose a secondary weapon, allowing for hundreds of possible weapon and skill combinations. Players will also scour the world far and wide to find the rarest and strongest Eidolons. These loyal battle partners are sent from the realm of Aura Kingdom to aid Envoys in their quests. During the course of Founder’s Beta, Closed Beta, and Stress Test, players collectively created over 170,000 characters and logged nearly 1,000,000 hours in the game. Now everyone has access to the open beta.

aura kingdom

Lucent Heart – open beta started on January 10, 2014 and this new free to play MMORPG has an interesting game mechanic that puts player relationships at the center of its gameplay. This is an MMO that has been designed from the ground up to provide players with extraordinary depth, lore, characterization, fun and adventure coupled with an all encompassing social experience. The mythical realm of Acadia forms the backdrop for many quests, social activities and epic boss fights.

As a player develops their character and skills, they are quickly encouraged to visit Cupid, whose matchmaking system asks players to take a personality test which matches star signs and characteristics to other players. Once matched, players are encouraged to team up, socialise in-game and get to know each other. If they choose, they can advance their relationship to enjoy an array of added benefits including improved experience gains and buffs when teaming together, a selection of new emotes which add additional powerful buffs and advantages, and access to new dungeon instances and unique special items. Having the right selection of partners and team-mates to play with enhances the in-game dynamic, making gameplay more enjoyable and more memorable.

Pay to Play MMORPG 2014

final fantasy mmorpg

For pay to play MMORPGs I think there is really only one MMORPG that is worth mentioning and that is clearly Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. There aren’t that many p2p MMOs so a new big-budget release like FF XIV is always welcome.

Features:

  • interesting Final Fantasy storyline, setting and creatures/NPCs
  • awesome graphics and HD cut scenes
  • player-run Free Companies
  • summoning
  • flexible class system
  • Final Fantasy music

Buy to Play MMORPG 2014

the secret world

The Secret World – Buy to play in this case means games that you have to buy but have no monthly subscription. My personal favorite is actually The Secret World, primarily because I love the concept of secret conspiracies and a dark underworld that exists alongside our ordinary, everyday world. TSW is practically the only MMO that is set in the modern-day world. It’s dripping atmosphere and plot plus I love that I only need to buy it once because there is no monthly subscription.

Link: The Secret World on Amazon.com

Guild Wars 2 – However, there is also another notable buy to play MMORPG: Guild Wars 2. GW2 is a best-selling game that is actually great value for money because it has tons of content, amazing graphics and can be played solo or socially.

Link: Guild Wars 2 on Amazon.com

defiance

Defiance – this game is unusual in that it is a third-person shooter that is played in a persistent open world that has no loading screens between zones. It’s pretty fun and if you love intense action combat then this might be the game for you. Defiance is also available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows PC. The last time I looked at it, the PC download version of the game was going for less than $10 so its amazingly good value for money.

Link: Defiance – PC

Best MOBA Game 2014

prime world

Hmmm, I really am not an expert on MOBA gaming but there was one game that caught my eye. It’s still in its open beta testing phase but shows a lot of promise. Prime World is a hybrid RPG/MOBA game that also features castle building. It’s been pretty fun so far.

Upcoming MMORPG 2014 List

In no particular order, the most anticipated upcoming MMO games are:

The Elder Scrolls Online (TESO) PC, Xbox One and PS4

teso

After 20 years of best-selling, award-winning fantasy role-playing games, the Elder Scrolls series goes online. The game reportedly looks and plays like Skyrim. TESO will feature real-time targeting and strategic attacks and blocks, one massive connected world (not split into different servers), dungeons, quests, and massive player versus player battles.

Best MMORPG 2013

Alright, so it’s almost the end of 2013 so it’s just about time to evaluate the year in terms of MMO gaming. Let’s not beat around the bush too much. In this post I will answer the question: what is the best MMORPG of 2013?

Best Free to Play MMORPG 2013

Defiance is unusual in that it is a third-person shooter that is played in a persistent open world that has no loading screens between zones. Best Browser MMORPG 2013

grand voyage

Now this is a difficult category for me since I think browser MMOs are fun but just casual. Nonetheless, if I really had to choose just one game then I would go for Grand Voyage because it has exactly what I like: a player-controlled economy and trading. I think it’s great to have a browser-based MMORPG with sandbox features. It’s currently in open beta so check out the link below.

Firefall! This is a great game that has generated a lot of buzz online. My online friends have been telling me to play Firefall with them ever since it was released. The game itself is a futuristic team-based shooter that has a large-scale, open-world cooperative campaign that is quite fun. Again, like many other games listed here, Firefall is in open beta.

Elsword – a fun side-scrolling action MMO that has manga-inspired graphic design and animation. Elsword offers players the chance to star in their own comic book. It’s top features include fast paced gameplay, stunning animation, four customizable characters and quests based on interesting story-lines. DotA Clones: Best MOBA Games 2012

Here’s a new post all about the best MOBA games 2012.

best dota cloneWhat do we mean by “MOBA”? It stands for Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. It is a fairly new MMO gaming genre that evolved from the Aeon of Strife custom map for Starcraft and the more recent Defense of the Ancients (DotA) custom scenario for Warcraft III. MOBAs are sometimes called DotA clones.

What is the gameplay like?

Basically, in MOBA games, players form teams whose goal is to destroy the opponents’ base, a heavily guarded structure at the opposite corner of the map. Each player controls a hero unit which is quite powerful and that can be leveled up like in MMORPGs. Players assist others in their teams and also have AI-controlled fighters or NPCs called “creeps”. Unlike traditional real-time strategy (RTS) games, MOBAs focus more on the heroes than on resource management or building.

Best MOBA Game 2012 – The Year’s Top Blockbuster

League of Legends – if you know anything at all about MOBA games, then you have probably heard of League of Legends (LoL) because it is currently the top free to play multiplayer battle arena game online. It’s so popular that more than 4 million gamers log into the game every day, with over 30 million registered players.

In fact, it was the success of LoL that made other game developers sit up and take notice of this new gaming genre and release their own DotA-like online games. Note that LoL was built by a veteran development team which includes the original creators of DotA Allstars. That’s why LoL is one of the best MOBA games in 2012.

best moba games

Here is an explanation of the gameplay in LoL:

Summoner – A player in League of Legends takes on the role of a Summoner, a gifted spell caster who has the power to bring forth a champion to fight as his or her avatar in Valoran’s Fields of Justice. As the Summoner controls the champion in combat, it also influences the outcome of the match through the use of spells, masteries and runes.

Champions – During each online multiplayer play session, gamers will choose one of dozens of unique Champions wielding diverse skills and abilities, and engage in fast-paced team-oriented combat to bring their foes to ruin. Champions will gain levels, items and abilities that enable them to slay their opponents and augment the strength of their allies by battling with enemy minions, foul beasts, deadly turrets and enemy Champions.

Points system – Once a match is over, players get both Influence Points and Riot Points. Influence Points will be earned by simply playing the game, while Riot Points will be available for purchase with real money. Both currencies can be used to unlock additional content customization options, whereas only Influence Points will be used to unlock content such as Runes, which enhance the power of playable characters. Gamers who spend money in the game will not have a power advantage over other players; they will have access to rare visual customization options.

Best MOBA Game 2012 – Honorable Mention

Heroes of Newerth – another great MOBA game that is free-to-play. Two teams of up to five play as special Hero units with the assistance of AI-controlled armies in an attempt to destroy the enemy base. The team oriented design of HoN and Voice-Over-IP controls allow for an incredibly deep tactical team based experience unlike any other. We at MMO Worlds particularly like the Casual Mode which provides new players with a more relaxed, less punishing way to learn and play HoN.

And the top pick of free to play MMORPGs 2011 is…*drumroll*

runes of magic free gameRunes of Magic – this free game has attracted over 4 million registered users so far, making it one of the most popular and successful free-to-play MMORPGs in the market. Runes of Magic is based on an exciting, multi-layered story, driven by more than 2,800 quests set in the atmospheric fantasy world of Taborea which spreads over two continents. Thanks to comprehensive crafting and ranking systems, gripping player vs. player features such as arenas and open battlefields, flexible and extensive customization of the user interface, a selection of demanding dungeons and many other features, Runes of Magic has something for everyone and is truly one of the best free MMORPGs for 2011.

Game Popularity

One of the things that set RoM apart is its popularity and large player base. A lot of games are very good but have not had the success Runes of Magic has had in attracting millions of players. Obviously, the top free MMO game of 2011 should have tons of players. RoM has over 4 million registered users.

Easy to Play, Hard to Master

This is also a game that is easy to understand and play. There is no difficult learning curve in the beginning because it is very newbie-friendly so anyone can just start playing right away even if they have never played an MMORPG before. However, once you do get into the game you will find that there is plenty of challenging content for players of all levels. It’s a good game for both casual and hardcore gamers.

Great Graphics, Smooth Playing

Another reason why RoM is the best free MMORPG for 2011 is that it has beautiful graphics and runs smoothly on all but the oldest computers. The user interface is similar to World of Warcraft’s so it should be quite familiar to WoW players.

Constantly Updated with New Content

The developers of RoM also constantly update the game with fresh new content several times a year. This is another sign of a successful free MMORPG since it shows that the game devs take their job seriously and have enough faith in the game to spend money creating fresh content such as instances, dungeons, expansions and the like. To give an example, the last content patch was “Souls of the Past” on November 22, 2011. Before that, on the 35th of October, there was a patch for the Pumpkin festival. More updates and content means that even long-time players will not get bored as they will always have something new to play.

f2p mmorpg 2012

Our top picks of free MMORPG games that will continue to entertain players next year:

Runes of Magic

Urban Rivals – let’s not forget the browser MMO genre. Urban Rivals is one of those easy to play but fun casual games that nonetheless has depth.

The Top 5 List: Our Favorites from Last Year (2011)

Here is a list of some of our favorite free to play MMORPGs in 2011. There are actually a lot more than just five good online multiplayer games so please feel free to look around this website at other lists and find other good MMORPGs.

lotro

Lord of the Rings Online – based on JRR Tolkien’s fantasy series Lord of the Rings, this MMORPG is different from the other games listed here because it was built and developed for Western gamers, with an emphasis on more photo-realistic graphics and classic RPG gameplay. Its top features include a huge game world, a unique PvP “Monster Play” mode where level 10 players can create a max level monster for PvP, player housing and story-driven quests. Another great gameplay feature are the “skirmishes” in which players must win a combat scenarios like fighting a horde that is trying to overrun a fortress. LOTRO is a big-budget AAA title that was originally pay to play but has now converted to the free to play model.

Battlespace Galactica Online – a new free Browser-Based, 3D Sci-Fi MMORPG that was released in February 2011. In the recent European Games Awards ceremony held in Cologne, Battlestar Galactica Online was presented the award for Best European Browser Game, Europe’s largest and most prestigious consumer-voted gaming award.

World of Tanks – this free action MMO is a certified blockbuster hit, with over 18 million players worldwide. World of Tanks is the first and only team-based MMO action game dedicated to armored warfare. Players control hundreds of historically accurate armored vehicles from America, Germany, the Soviet Union, etc. It’s not all about controlling and upgrading your tank, though. In the World of Tanks, victory is achieved through teamwork. It is only by combining your combat skills with those of the other members of your team, each playing their own role on the battlefield, that you can win battles. The game has been praised for its straightforward controls, fun shooter-style gameplay, and the fact that battles are evenly matched – newbies fight with other newbies while experts with monster machines of destruction don’t get to steamroll the newcomers.

League of Legends – four million players play League of Legends everyday, that’s how popular this game is and why it is in this list of the Top 5 Free MMORPGs 2011. LoL features fast and fun session-based, multiplayer battles against rival teams. During each online multiplayer session, gamers will choose one of dozens of unique Champions wielding diverse skills and abilities, and engage in fast-paced team-oriented combat to defeat enemy minions, foul beasts, deadly turrets and enemy Champions. This is somewhat similar in gameplay to the Warcraft 3 mod DotA-Allstars. This is because the dev team of League of Legends includes some of the creators of DotA-Allstars. LoL is sometimes called a DotA clone.

shaiya top 5 mmorpg

Shaiya – a good all-around MMORPG with beautiful 3D graphics, tons of content and faction vs faction (Light vs Darkness) PvP, Shaiya stands out because of its polished and smooth gameplay that has a good learning curve – easy for beginners to learn but has several difficulty levels as you level up. The four difficulty modes are easy, normal, hard and ultimate which gives the player a good range of choices depending on how familiar he or she is with MMO games. Of course, the real reason why Shaiya is one of the top 5 MMORPGs of 2011 is due to its fun and addictive gameplay, with lots of PvE and dungeon raids with guildmates.
